The speculation surrounding the recent awards show was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team could be crafting a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
