As any prominent awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a clamor to include additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.
My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are tabletop games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial above others. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.
Categorizing Game Types
Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is a necessary evil for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse they hardly constitute a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Existing Game Classification System
The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually without proper recognition in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category that year
- Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
- Only a few puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Commonly they're modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for many years.
The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games for the title of highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.
Proposal and Rationale
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.
And to reiterate, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
